Stash Busting - A New Years Resolution

Sunday, December 28, 2008

It's only a few days until the New Year and I have been thinking about embarking on a year of stash reduction. It's a great way to make space for new acquisitions and an incentive to get creative about the use of what is already there.

Feeling sure that there must be some rules for this sort of thing, I googled it. I found a site complete with competitions and registration. It sounded a bit too organised for me and I can't for the life of me find the site again. There are stash busting tips for knitters too.

I wanted to know if backing fabric and boarders count. Can I still buy fabric for making gifts? Then I found this pledge. It sounds like me.

If anyone is keen to join me on the stash busting, let me know. You don't even need to be a quilter, just a crafter with some hoarding habits to break.

Note: I've had the set of catalog drawers for a while but only just finished the labels for each drawer.

  1. That is a very clever use of the catalogue drawers!

  2. Those drawers are absolutely fantastic -- are they an old-fashioned card catalog?

I'm hoping to use up a bunch of my stash in 2009, but I don't think I'll stop buying new fabric and yarn.

  3. That is a great way to label the drawers. Mine still had the library numbers on the labels when I got it. The kids made sure that they all disappeared! I still have to put fabric in them though - that's why I bought mine in the first place. Right now it seems that stray cd's and cords get stuffed into the drawers! I think I have a pic of mine on my blog - one of my very first posts! Where did you get yours?

  4. i love your drawers. i should bust stash too, but even the pledge sounds constricting to me....does that mean i'm simply an addict an can't give it up? could be!

  5. I will be enjoying your journey of stashbusting in 2009. I have several plans to continue to use up what I have. Love the catalog drawers!!

  6. that is a divine set of drawers! I really think I would only be inspired to continue adding to my stash just so I could play with them!

  7. the drawers look great! I'd love to get more organized so I can easily see and find things when I want them. Makes creating that much easier.

  8. I too need to stashbust this year - fabric and yarn - so am following your lead from here on. Stashes look so good, though, but the hording must stop!
And your work looks beautiful ...
